Cologne University of Catholic Theology, founded in 1925, is a state-approved ecclesiatical institution of higher education seated in Köln-Lindenthal, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is sponsored by the Divine Word Missionaries. Round about 100 students currently receive a theological education there. The range of studies offered comprises the five-year undergraduate study program in Catholic Theology (Mag.Theol.). Cologne University of Catholic Theology is the only higher education institution throughout Germany to offer Mission Theology as a major subject. In terms of content, the subject addresses issues relating to mission theology, ethnology, religious studies, as well as the Third World issue. Moreover, at the postgraudate level, Cologne University of Catholic Theology offers a licentiate as well as doctoral program. Added to this is the certificate course “Additional Qualification in Theology“, which is targeted at social work students, as well as the six-semester extra-occupational Master degree course “Interreligious Dialogue Competence“ (M.A.).
