Description
Musicology is the study of music and its development in different periods of time, as well as in different languages and cultures. It covers the history of various musical genres and their role in society, and provides an understanding of and the ability to interpret music in every aspect. Subjects taught in Musicology programs include History of Music, Music Technology, Music Theory, Music Context, as well as in-depth analysis and research into the understanding of music through listening, performance and composition. Musicology is a broad field of study which combines the theoretical aspect with practical hours spent training the ear, voice, instrument, conducting or performing. The aesthetic side of music in terms of cultural and philological effect of music is also on focus. Students develop the ability to understand music and its history, analyze live and recorded music and communicate freely orally and in text. Career fields of musicology graduates are various, ranging from music journalism or writing, editing, publishing, through preserving instruments and other musical history memorabilia, to recording, teaching and researching, administration and management and many others.
