The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1764 and seated in Dresden (Saxony), is a public art school with the right to grant doctoral degrees. It accomodates almost 600 students. The scope of studies offered includes five study courses, namely “Fine Arts“, “Art Technology and Conservations of Works of Art“, “Stage and Costume Design“, “Set Design“, and “Art Therapy“. The ten-semester Diploma degree course “Fine Arts“ is split up into two study phases, each lasting four semesters, and a diploma phase, spanning a time period of two semesters. The five-year Diploma course “Art Technology and Conservations of Works of Art“ is the only one of its kind in Germany to create a balance between scientific ensurance of results, conservation-restauration practice and scientific problem processing. The five-year study course “Stage and Costume Design“ combines a stage designer training program with a costume designer training program. The four-year Diploma course “Set Design“ prepares students for professional activities in the fields of Set Painting, Set Sculpture, Mask Image, and Costume Design. The two-year consecutive study course “Art Therapy“ centers on the wide range of art therapy methods.
