Description
The secondary energy carrier hydrogen is becoming increasingly important in terms of climate protection and sustainability, both nationally and internationally. Numerous teaching and research focuses belong á priori to the development of hydrogen-based energy systems. The new degree programme from the Department of Engineering is unique in Germany. It pursues a holistic approach in which students acquire both technical and management competence in the field of hydrogen-based energy systems.
Here, necessary expertise and methods of various technologies for energy production, storage and transport of hydrogen are taught. The detailed classification of hydrogen technology in areas of application (electromobility, fuel cells, aerospace, shipping), starting from the basics of electrochemistry and thermodynamics, should help to deal with safety aspects and to further develop and optimise these, taking into account ecological as well as economic boundary conditions.
Graduates receive the necessary competences for realistic identification and assessment of possible application and development potentials of hydrogen technology. Furthermore, they should be able to realistically classify hydrogen and its applications in the overall context of the energy industry, as well as to recognise market potentials of the technology and to develop them economically through suitable business models. Hydrogen technicians/Hydrogen and Energy Business Managers will develop and support the widespread use of the future technology hydrogen as experts.
The programme ends after 3 semesters with 60 ECTS and the academic degree "Master of Science".
