The Evangelische Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Halle, founded by the consistory of the Protestant Church of the Province of Saxony in 1926, is a clerically sponsored university of church music seated in Halle an der Saale, Saxony-Anhalt. It accomodates round about 50 students in six study programs: the eight-semester Bachelor program in Church Music, the four-semester consecutive Master program in Church Music, the ten-semester combined program “Bachelor in Church Music/Secondary School Teacher Education in Music“ (in partnership with the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg), the four-semester Master degree course “Artistic Organ Playing“, the four-semester Master degree course “Choir and Orchestra Conducting“, as well as the four-semester Master course “Concert and Oratorio Singing“. Church Music studies make eligible for full-time employment as a church musician in Catholic and Protestant churches. The degree course “Artistic Organ Playing“ prepares students for full-time or part-time employment as an organ player. The degree course “Choir and Orchestra Conducting“ prepares for full-time or part-time employement as a conductor. The study course “Concert and Oratorio Singing“ makes eligible for full-time or part-time employment as an oratorio singer. Depending on the study program, graduates receive a B.Mus., and M.Mus. Precondition to study at the Evangelische Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Halle is the completion of an admission examination.
