Description
The study program “Bachelor of Fine Arts in Set Design” at Film University Babelsberg provides individuals with theoretical and practical fundamentals needed to independently work at studio film sets or with external art departments. Students familiarize themselves with location scouting, learning how to find the ideal film location. They are given practical exercises including analysis of images and spaces in painting, film, and theater. Thus participants are given a chance to build a studio set which could also involve the collaborative creation of narrative idea. Working in a team with colleagues from other programs on fictional short film projects and learning how to contribute to filmic storytelling is compulsory. Studies comprise the following modules: Introductory Courses, Basics of Set Design, Interdisciplinary Basics, Communication and Presentation, Stages, Events, TV, Studio Set Design or Artificial Light Project, VFX, Artistic Graduation Project, and Bachelor’s Thesis. Graduates are able to develop their own artistic signatures and can pursue a career in film companies or production units.
