The primary objective of the study program “Master of Fine Arts in Set/Production Design” at Film University Babelsberg is to give a chance to individuals who have successfully completed a degree program in Set Design or a similar program to further refine their artistic signature. The course of studies introduces students to the research and conceptual development necessary for the creation of spaces, settings, costumes, and make-ups. They can work independently or in team in the field of set design thanks to their technical skills in digital filmmaking and the ability to employ visual effects. Furthermore, students are engaged in the academic discourse on film form. Having the responsibility to manage the art department in a wide range of interdisciplinary film projects, students familiarize themselves with philosophical, esthetical, and semiotic implications of the creation of images and spaces in practice.
