The Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1868 as Royal School for Naval Steam Machinists, is a public university of applied sciences seated in Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein. Nearly 4,000 students are enrolled in eleven Bachelor and eight Master degree courses. The University is organized into four departments: the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Maritime Technologies, the Department of Energy and Biotechnology, the Department of Information and Communication, and the Department of Economics. The first department comprises the study courses “Mechanical Engineering“ (B.Eng.), “Maritime Engineering/Marine Engineering“ (B.Eng.), “Maritime Traffic, Navigation and Logistics“ (B.Eng.), and “Systems Engineering“ (M.Eng.). The second department includes the degree courses “Bio Technology/Process Engineering“ (B.Sc.), “Biotechnology and Process Engineering“ (M.Sc.), “Energy Sciences“ (B.Eng.), and “Wind Engineering“ (M.Sc.). The third department offers the degree courses “Applied Computer Science“ (B.Sc./M.Sc.), “Media Informatics“ (B.Sc.), “International Professional Communication“ (B.A./M.A.), and “Intermedia and Marketing“ (M.A.). The fourth department provides the study courses “Business Administration“ (B.A.), “Business Management“ (M.A.), “E-Health“ (M.A.), and “Business informatics“ (B.Sc.). The courses “Business Administration“, “Bio Technology-Process Engineering“, “Energy Sciences“, “Mechanical Engineering“, “Media Informatics“, and “Maritime Engineering – Maritime Mechanical Engineering“ can be completed on a dual basis as well. Although the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences is not entitled to grant doctoral degrees, it provides the opportunity for extra-occupational cooperative doctorates.
