The six-semester full-time study program “Bachelor of Science in Medical Assistant – Surgery” offered by Fliedner University of Applied Sciences provides students with the needed qualification, in order to be eligible to do tasks concerning patient care which have been given them by doctors. Some of the tasks that are done by medical assistants are helping doctors in their clinical work, and collaborate with them as parts of a professional team. Changing between study and practical phases provides students with a high degree of practical applicability. Moreover, they complete seven – week practical tasks every semester. Some of the topics that are addresses throughout the course of study are basic skills in surgery, medical technology, social medicine and public health. In practice, the chores of the surgical departments are surgical field sanitation and covering, supporting at the operating table, wound closure assistance, and surgical administration. Graduates of the program are active in perioperative assistance in clinics and outpatient operation centres, participation in clinical research projects and others.
