The “Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Near Eastern Languages and History’’ study program offered by Free University of Berlin is a six-semester course designed by the Department of History and Cultural Studies. It is a study program created in a single variation: Minor subject in a combi bachelor. The course is primarily focused on the language, cultury and history of the present countries Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. Upon graduation, the participants are expected to understand, analyse and work freely with texts in at least two ancient Oriental languages. The interdisciplinary study program aims at putting the gained language knowledge into wide social and cultural context. Additional languages that the students can choose from are Sumerian, Hittite, or an alternative ancient Near Eastern language.
