The “Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature’’ study program offered by Free University of Berlin is a six-semester course designed by the Department of Philosophy and Humanities. It is a study program created in two variations: Major subject in a combi bachelor and Minor subject in a combi bachelor. The program is primarily focused on language, literature, and cultures of the German-speaking world. The course is a combination between a practical language module and a specialized academic module, including the three major areas: Modern German Literature, Older German Literature and Language, and Linguistics (General and German Linguistics). Upon graduation, the participants are expected to analyze, describe the language structute, to understand its development as a communication tool, and additionally, to work freely with literary and non-literary texts.
