The “Bachelor of Arts in History and Cultures of the Middle East: Concentration Arabic Studies” study program offered by Free University of Berlin is a 6-semester course designed by the Department of History and Cultural Studies. The course examines the history and culture of the Islamic-influenced Near East from early times to the present. The course gives the participants knowledge of the relationships, interconnections, and the specific influence of societies of the Near East in the areas of culture, politics, law, religion. The study program combines both theory and practice, giving the students the chance to use original language sources in an Oriental language. The course emphasizes on Arabic poetry and prose literature, religious, philosophical, historical and geographical literature of Islamic culture, as well as theater, music, and other media in Arabic.
