The “Bachelor of Arts in History and Cultures of the Middle East: Concentration Islamic Studies’’ study program offered by Free University of Berlin is a 6-semester course designed by the Institute of Islamic Studies. The focus of the course is on Islamic societies in history and the present, together with Muslim life in non-Muslim majority societies, including Europe. In the core of the study program is the understanding of the way the how Islamic teachings and practices shape the culture, politics, and law societies in multicultural context. The course focuses on transformations and relation of cultures, and the role they play the Near East and Europe. The program of the Institute of Islamic Studies offers two different fields of research - Islam in Europe, and Muslim Cultures and Societies in South Asia.
