The “Bachelor of Arts in Language and Society’’ study program offered by Free University of Berlin is a six-semester course designed by the Department of Philosophy and Humanities. It is a study program created in two variations: Major subject in a combi bachelor and Minor subject in a combi bachelor. The course examines the connections between language and society, their unique coexistence and development through times. The participants will be introduced to the various aspects of language – as a communication instrument, symbol and a living organism that changes with the socium itself. The interdisciplinary approach combines knowledge on sociolinguistics, theory and extensive practice. Students are expected to develop their foreign languages too, choosing from nearly 15 options. The educational program adopts an array of additional courses offered by the Language Center of the Free University.
