Geneva University of Music is a Swiss public higher education institution for music that was founded in 1835 under the name of Conservatoire de musique de Genève. It is seated in Geneva and has another location in Neuchâtel. As of 2009, it has been part of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and bears the name „Haute école de musique Genève“ (HEM). Geneva University of Music currently accommodates more than 600 students from all over the world, of which 500 study in Geneva. It offers state-recognized degree programs at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels (B.A./M.A.) in six departments: Keyboard Instruments, Orchestral Instruments, Voice, Early Music, Music and Movement, as well as Composition and Theory. The departments carry out common activities and maintain partnerships with other higher education institutions. The University’s scope of studies offered also includes continuing education courses leading to a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies, respectively.
