Description
The study program “Screenwriting” offered by the German Film and Television Academy Berlin provides students with the needed knowledge and skills in order to improve their craft and creativity. To the program are admitted up to ten students every year, who ideally have prior experience in other types of writing. The course is very practice-oriented. Writers learn by doing, with theory incorporated as appropriate. Thus, each student will graduate with a portfolio of work that includes pitch documents, treatments, and completed scripts. Students form all disciplines work together on a silent film, a short documentary, and a short drama during the first year. They play a variety of duties on the team, including producer, director, sound, and editing, in addition to writing. As a result, they get a better understanding of the filmmaking process and make connections with other students at the academy. During the second year, writers construct a short screenplay, a genre treatment, and a feature project under the guidance of an industry mentor. Throughout the third year, students attend an independent feature module and a TV series module. As a finale of the program students need to submit a graduation script.
