The German Police University, founded in 2006, is a public university seated in Münster-Hiltrup, North Rhine-Westphalia. Almost 400 students are currently enrolled there. Individuals studying at German Police University are police officers who, having completed their first-degree studies, seek to advance to the senior police service. The University is divided into three departments: the Department of Leadership Sciences, Organisational and Administrative Sciences, the Department of Operational Management, Transport Sciences, Communication Studies, and the Department of Criminal Sciences, Law. The German Police University offers the two-year Master degree course “Public Administration – Police Management“ (M.A.), which includes the following subjects: Operations Management, Leadership Studies, Organization and HR Development, Public Management, Criminology, Criminalistics, Transportation Science and Traffic Psychology, as well as Law. While the first academic year takes place in the respective federal states, the second academic year takes place at the site in Münster. The German Police University has the right to confer doctoral degrees.
