Description

Dramaturgy is the process of assessing, critiquing and contributing to theatrical, film or operatic productions. Dramaturges analyze and evaluate the productions and contribute to their needs from a critical point of view. Students are taught subjects such as History of Theater, Analysis of Theatrical Productions, Editing and Publishing, Models of Dramaturgy, Drama and Performance Theory, Development Process, Critical Writing, Fundamentals of Directing and many more. Practice in real work environments is a key part of any Dramaturgy program, so students can develop the most valuable skills required for a successful career – in-depth analysis, critical thinking, an objective approach, excellent verbal and written communication, extensive knowledge about Theatre History, as well as recent productions and developments, and innovative and creative problem solving strategies. A degree in Dramaturgy opens the door for behind-the-scenes work in theater, as potential career prospects include artistic director, producer, theater critic, institution administrator, teacher, playwright, project manager, theater director, screenwriter, as well as the role of a dramaturge.
