The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1970, is a public university seated in Hamburg and supported by the Behörde für Wissenschaft und Forschung (Ministry of Science and Research). Accomodating round about 16,800 students, the University is Germany’s third-largest university of applied sciences. It is split into four faculties and its respective departments: the Faculty of Design, Media, Information (Department of Design, Department of Media Technology, Department of Information), the Faculy of Life Sciences (Department of Health Sciences, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Medical Technology, Department of Environmental Engineering, Department of Process Engineering, Department of Ecotrophology, Department of Industrial Engineering), the Faculty of Engineering & Computer Science (Department of Automotive & Aeronautical Engineering, Department of Computer Science, Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Production), and the Faculty of Business & Social Sciences (Department of Public Management, Department of Social Work, Department of Maintenance and Management, Department of Economics). Prospective students are offered 42 Bachelor and 32 Master degree courses. In addition to conventional Bachelor and Master studies, the University also provides the continuing education (often extra-occupational) Master courses “Applied Family Sciences“, “Renewable Energies“, “Next Media“, “Nursing“, “Social and Health Management“, “Public Management“, “Public Health“, and “Visual Journalism“. Further continuing education studies include studies leading to a certificate. Graduates receive a B.A., B.Sc., B.Eng., M.A., M.Sc., M.Eng., MPH, and MBA.
