The Heidelberg University of Education, founded in 1962, is a public university seated in Heidelberg, Baden-Wuerttemberg. It prepares more than 4,600 students for being specialists and executives in educational professions. The University is organized into three faculties: the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and Humanities, and the Faculty of Natural and Social Sciences. The scope of Bachelor studies includes both teaching-related Bachelor programs and Bachelor programs unrelated to teaching. The former programs comprise “Primary Education (targeted on a teaching degree for students aged 5 to 12 (Grundschule/Elementary School)“ (B.A.), “Secondary Education (targeted on a teaching degree for students aged 10 to17 (Sekundarstufe I/High Schools)“ (B.A.), and “Special Needs Education (targeted on a teaching degree in special needs education)“ (B.A.). Bachelor programs unrelated to teaching include “Early Childhood and Preprimary Education“ (B.A.), and “Health Promotion“ (B.A.). The scope of Master studies includes the study courses “Educational Sciences“ (M.A.), “E-Learning and Media Education“ (M.A.), and “Engineering Education“ (M.Sc.). Under certain conditions, the Heidelberg University of Education allows studying without a German secondary school-leaving certificate. Completion of an admission examination is a prerequisite for studying the subjects Art, Music, and Physical Education. Entitled to confer doctoral degrees, the Heidelberg University of Education also offers doctoral degree programs.
