The Helmut Schmidt University, founded under the name of „Hochschule der Bundeswehr Hamburg“ in 1972 and seated in Hamburg, is a public university that has the right to confer doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. It first and foremost accomodates as students officers or officer canditates of the German army, yet also civilian persons. More than 2,000 students are enrolled in ten Bachelor and 16 Master degree courses. The University is organized into four departments: the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Economics and Social Sciences. The scope of Bachelor studies includes the degree courses “Business Administration“ (B.Sc.), “Education Science“ (B.A.), “Electrical Engineering and Information Engineering“ (B.Sc.), “Engineering Science: Defence Systems“ (B.Sc.), “History“ (B.A.), “Mechanical Engineering“ (B.Sc.), “Political Science“ (B.A.), “Psychology“ (B.Sc.), “Economics“ (B.Sc.), and “Industrial Engineering“ (B.Sc.).
