Description
The internationally recognized bachelor's degree program in journalism and corporate communications is aimed at students who are specifically interested in the journalistic environment and also provides specialized knowledge and skills in corporate communications. The dual qualification opens up a wide range of career prospects in the media sector, as companies, institutions and associations increasingly need professionals in communications to get their issues and messages heard in the media.
As an undergraduate degree program, the Journalism and Corporate Communications program at HMKW covers all areas of journalistic work, from print journalism to radio and online to TV journalism. You will learn the theoretical basics of communication, research, write reports and news, write reports, and conduct exciting interviews. The interplay between media and politics as well as the basics of economics are taught. You will learn the craft of good journalists and communication experts from scratch and put your skills and knowledge into practice. At HMKW, this takes place in projects with partners from the media and business, on excursions and during project weeks.
Teachers in the Department of Journalism and Communication have a strong connection to practice. This ensures that students learn how journalism and communication are changing. Exciting opportunities are establishing themselves in the digital transformation of journalism: Journalists today can tell stories not only in a linear way, but in a flexible and varied way through cross-media storytelling. In addition to the story, which can be told from different perspectives, there are videos with interviews, audio excerpts or interactive graphics. Journalism has become more lively and colorful with digitalization. At HMKW, students work with these new forms and are thus equipped for daily change and careers.
Value is also placed on scientific work. With the bachelor's thesis, students learn to get to grips with a complex topic academically. The combination of theory and practice at HMKW broadens the spectrum of knowledge and skills and improves opportunities for career entry.
