The study program „Master of Engineering in Construction Bionics” at HTW Saar can be done in a six-semester course. The aim of applying bionics in industry is to bring products closer to the natural design of organisms, so that lighter, more practical or more energy-efficient products are created. This requires the combined forces of biologists and engineers, who supply the trends and fundamentals of mechatronics, mechanical engineering, materials science. The two additional semesters for the acquisition of a graduate degree are dedicated to the Master’s thesis. Studies are performed primarily through distance-learning modules, and a few face-to-face ones. The scientific backbone for implementing biological solutions to technology is carried out by a joint team of the HTW Saar, zfh - Center for Distance Learning in the University Association, the Bionic Engineering Network (BEN) eV and the University of Kaiserslautern.
