The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who are interested in gaining academic knowledge of the methods and practices of European cultures throughout history. The wide historical range that the Bachelor program comprises, from classical antiquity to nowadays, allows students to comprehensively examine the ways in which literary, art, visual and social practices have shaped and were shaped by the culture in which they occurred. By concerning themes, such as the symbolic order, as well as the perception of different societal discourses, participants learn to juxtapose these practices with the German literary and cultural canon. Some of the mandatory modules are “Theories – Methods – Canon,” “Texts – Images – Objects,” “Perception – Imagination – Bodies” and “Techniques – Practices – Materialisations”.
