Description
The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Deaf Studies” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a full-time mono-bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who would like to be able to communicate with Deaf Sign Language users or those hard-of-hearing and start their professional careers in Deaf associations, counselling services or any other social, medical or rehabilitative center in which academic knowledge of Sign language is required. The Bachelor program offers extensive training in German Sign Language (DGS) as it provides students with in-depth knowledge of this disability in the realm of the social and institutional domain. Proof of basic knowledge of DGS (up to 80 hrs of instruction) is required. Participants could choose between two fields of specialization, namely “Public Social Services for Deaf people,” or “Interpreting and Translation”.
