The certificate program “German in a Multilingual Context” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a three-module course with a duration of one semester. The program is targeted towards participants with a completed university degree in a related field who wish to become qualified teachers of German as a foreign language. This training course aims at providing participants from the Bachelor program in German Linguistics the necessary skills to academically understand and be able to deal with the challenges of teaching a language in different environmental settings. Within the duration of the program, students are required to attend the following modules “Multilingualism,” “German as a Foreign and Second Language: Acquisition and Teaching” and “German as a Foreign and Second Language in Practice”. The latter module provides allows participants to practise the acquired skills in the form of an internship.
