The study program “Bachelor of Arts in German Studies” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who are either interested in starting a career in education or who wish to gain academic knowledge of German literature and culture. The Bachelor program aims at providing students with the core knowledge of the different theories and methods for studying literary theories, linguistics and media studies from an academic perspective. The close examination of the links between Old and Modern German Literature is of particular importance in the program. Other essential themes are the methodological research of the subdisciplines Germanistics, as well as Historical Linguistics. Knowledge of at least two foreign European languages alongside German is advisable.
