Description
The study program “Master of Arts in Historical Linguistics” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a full-time course with a duration of four semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who would like to find employment in professional fields in which expertise in the different modes of linguistic communication is required. The aim of it is to train students to scientifically study the evolvement of the German language from social, cultural and historical points of view. The Master program aims at establishing the base for students to contribute to current research by methodologically comparing the processes and mechanisms behind the development of a given language with the intercultural and historic events that might have played a role in this change. Amongst many elective modules that participants could choose from, there are also several mandatory courses, namely “Language History Research Literature,” “Theoretical Foundations of Linguistics,” “Theoretical Foundations of Historical Linguistics,” “Language and Text,” “Language and Structure” and “Language and History”.
