Description
The study program “Master of Arts in Modern South and Southeast Asian Studies” offered at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin public university provides a full-time course with a duration of four semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who are interested in gaining extensive academic knowledge in the South and Southeast Asian region from historical, cultural, linguistic, as well as political perspectives. The aim of it is to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of a particular country or region within Southeast Asia by learning the official language of communication there, examining the socio-political situation of the region and studying the importance of the particular area for the development of globalization. Taking part in an exchange program with one of the universities there is strongly advised as part of the symbolical binding of the two regions. Some of the modules that participants take in this program are namely, “History of Modernization Processes in South and Southeast Asia,” “Cultures and Religions of South and Southeast Asia,” “Political and Social Structures in South and Southeast Asia” and “Languages of South and Southeast Asia”.
