The Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, founded in 1477 and named after the inventor of letterpress printing, is a public university seated in Mainz, Rhineland Palatinate. Accomodating 33,000 students, it is among the largest universities in Germany. The University is organized into ten faculties: the Faculty of Catholic Theology, the Faculty of Protestant Theology, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Media, and Sports, the Faculty of Law, Management and Economics, the Faculty of University Medicine, the Faculty of Philosophy and Philology, the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies, the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies, the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, the Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Geosciences, and the Faculty of Biology. The University’s course offerings range from Bachelor and Master degree programs through Diploma and Magister degree programs right down to State Examination programs. At Bachelor’s level, Johannes Gutenberg University offers single subject Bachelor programs, double Bachelor programs, and a teacher education progam that leads to the Bachelor of Education degree. The range of Master studies includes both consecutive and continuing education programs. Among them are the following programs: “German Law for Legal Students who Graduated Abroad“, “Epidemiology“, “Executive Master of Business Administration“, “Catholic Theology“ (Licentiate), “Media Law“, “Medical Ethics“, “Psychodynamic Psychotherapy“, and “Psychological Psychotherapy“. The scope of Diploma studies includes the study courses “Church Music“ (B Examination), and “Free Fine Arts“ (taught at the University of Fine Arts Mainz). Studies leading to a Magister degree are the study courses “Catholic Theology“, and “Protestant Theology“. The State Examination studies include the study courses “Medicine“, “Pharmacy“, “Law“, and “Dentistry“.
