The Merz Academy, founded in 1918 and named after Albrecht Leo Merz, is a state-recognized private educational institution that specializes in Design, Art, and Media and that is seated in Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg. It is sponsored by the Merz Akademie gGmbH. Round about 260 students currently receive an academic education in study programs at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. The range of Bachelor studies comprises the seven-semester study course “Design, Art and Media“ (B.A.) which can be taken in the fields New Media, Film and Video, Visual Communication, and Theory. In terms of Master studies, the Academy provides the three/four-semester postgraduate study course “Knowledge Creation in Design, Art and Media“ (M.A.). Studies offered by Merz Academy are primarily designed to prepare students for artistic-creative authorship, making them aware of the cultural, aesthetical and scientific aspects of their work.
