Description

Geoinformatics is an academic discipline that deals with geo-data to comprehend and interpret human interaction with the Earth’s surface. Geoinformatics uses information science and technology to study topics related to geography and geosciences, such as agriculture, meteorology, climate change, oceanography, biodiversity conservation and transport network planning. The significance of Geoinformatics can be observed through the application of modern technology to help solve logistical, planning and sustainability issues, and use natural resources efficiently. The most common subjects taught in Geoinformatics degree programs include Geographic Data Analysis, Geographic Information Systems, Computer Networks and Distributed Computing, Database Management Systems, Spatial Modeling and Geographical Communication, Environmental Analysis and Synthesis, Advanced Remote Sensing and others. A degree course in Geoinformatics gives students the ability to recognize and assess geographic issues, apply remote sensing techniques through satellite systems and image analysis, conduct individual research and understand core principles and strategies in environmental management. Geoinformatics graduates can enjoy a variety of career opportunities and find work in sectors, such as geoinformation management, remote sensing, geospatial database administration, geoinformatics system development, and many more.
