Police Academy Hamburg, founded in 2013, is a public training and advanced training institution of the Hamburg Police which is funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Aside from training people as middle-rank police officers, the Academy provides a three-year study program that trains students as senior police officers. The study program, which is divided into modules, is conducted via an in-house university of applied sciences sector where police inspector candidates have the opportunity to attend a Bachelor program in the following fields: “Schutzpolizei“ (Security Police), “Kriminalpolizei“ (Criminal Investigation department), and “Wasserschutzpolizei“ (Water Police Force). In terms of contents, the program covers such topics as Criminology, Psychosocial Fundamentals, Law, and Police in the International Context. It breaks down into theoretical and practical study sections, and concludes with the completion of the Laufbahnprüfung II examination, qualifying graduates for police service as a police inspector. The study program is geared to climbing police officers and direct entrants.
