The Rostock University of Music and Theatre, founded in 1994, is a public art school seated in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It accomodates some 555 students. The scope of Bachelor studies (B.Mus.) comprises the study courses “Strings“, “Wind Section“, “Piano“, “Voice“, “Percussion/Drum“, “Harp“, “Guitar“, “Répétiteur Opera and Musical Theatre“, “Orchestra Conducting“, “Composition“, “Music Theory“, “Pop and World Music with Classical Music (Piano, Guitar, Bass, Saxophone, Drums, Voice). At Master’s level (M.Mus.), prospective students have the choice between the study courses “Orchestra with main subject wind instruments“, “Orchestra with main subject harp“, “Orchestra with main subject percussion“, “Orchestra with main subject strings“, “Chambermusic with main subject lied interpretation or main subject ensemble playing“, “Piano solo“, “Piano duo“, “Guitar solo“, “Opera Singing“, “Concert Singing“, “Composition“, “Music Theory“, “Orchestra Conducting“, “Répétiteur, “Music Education“, as well as “Drama in Education“, and Musicology“. In addition, the University offers the Diploma degree course (Artist diploma) “Acting“, as well as a Perfomer’s Diploma program. The Rostock University Music and Theatre is entitled to grant doctoral and post-doctoral degrees. Prerequisite for studying at the University is the completion of an aptitude test.
