The study program “Bachelor of Arts in English and American Studies” offered at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum public university provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who are either interested in gaining academic knowledge of the scholarly exploration of the English and American language, literature and culture or those who intend to seek a career path in educational institutions. The Bachelor program aims at providing students with the fundamentals of the field so that they could explore the complex socio-political relationship between literature and culture. Topics such as the Brexit, 9/11, the ‘American Dream’, gender inequalities and racism play a central role in this study program. Participants are required to complete either a six-week or a twelve-week studying abroad exchange program, depending on their specialization preferences.
