The study program “Bachelor of Arts in German Studies” offered at the Ruhr University Bochum public university provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who would like to either pursue a career path in institutions in which academic knowledge of German philology is required or those who wish to find employment in the educational sector. The aim of the Bachelor program is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of studying the development of the German language throughout the centuries. In addition, participants gain knowledge in the scientific comparison of the literary and cultural discourses that have shaped and are shaped by the German Medieval and modern works of literature. The supplementary teacher training course prepares participants for future professional work with children and young adults. Taking part in an exchange program at a university abroad, as well as completing an internship is not mandatory but rather highly advisable.
