The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Studies” offered at Ruhr-University Bochum provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who would like to pursue a career path in cultural and educational institutions in which academic knowledge of the Japanese language and culture is desired. The Bachelor program aims at providing students with the necessary academic skills to be able to examine the ways in which the Japanese language has evolved throughout the centuries. Additionally, the historical occurrences that have shaped this society and its relation to the development of other communities in the region are closely investigated. A prerequisite to starting the program is sufficient knowledge of Japanese, as well as proficiency in another non-European language.
