The study program “Master of Arts in Korean Studies” offered at Ruhr University Bochum provides a full-time combined master course with a duration of four semesters. This program is suitable for undergraduates with relevant previous academic experience who wish to deepen their expertise in the subject matter. The multidisciplinary approach of the Master’s program enables participants to acquire in-depth knowledge of the historical, socio-political and religious aspect of the country concerning the globalized Western world. For instance, students are provided with the opportunity to closely examine the consequences that the division of the country into two sovereign states after WWII has brought for the East Asian region and the world. Besides a language proficiency in modern Korean, another precondition to starting this program is fundamental insights into written Chinese and Middle Korean.
