The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Oriental and Islamic Studies” offered at Ruhr University Bochum provides a full-time combined bachelor course with a duration of six semesters. This program is targeted towards participants who would like to either pursue a career path in cultural institutions in which academic knowledge of Islamic language, literature and culture is required or those who wish to find employment in the educational sector. The Bachelor program aims to provide students with the core knowledge of the intricate role that Islamic cultural practices play in the context of today’s globalized Western world. Additionally, Oriental languages and works of literature are also closely examined. Some preconditions to starting this program include proof of Latinum, Graecum or Hebraicum, usually submitted in the form of a certificate of language proficiency.
