The study program “Master of Arts in Public History” offered at Ruhr University Bochum provides a full-time mono-master course with a duration of four semesters. This program is targeted towards History graduates who would like to obtain academic insights into various historical representations from the perspective of the public. In contrast to the examination of concepts of general history, this subdiscipline focuses primarily on the academic depiction and transmission of historical discourses outside of academia. That is why the Master’s program prepares participants for employment in the public sector, i.e. in government, archival institutions and museums. In addition, the program requires students to complete a one-semester internship at a related corporation.
