The study program “Master of Arts in Russian Studies” offered at Ruhr University Bochum provides a full-time mono-master course with a duration of four semesters. This program is targeted towards prospective students with a related previous academic background who are motivated to find employment in cultural and academic institutions where knowledge of Russian history, politics, language and culture is demanded. The Master’s program enables students to acquire insights into the country’s customs and traditions while studying its complex political and cultural relations with the rest of Europe. In addition, participants are allowed to further explore Russia’s Soviet past and the consequences that it has brought to the formation and development of new sovereign states after its collapse. Since students are strongly encouraged to take part in study abroad programs at higher institutions in Moscow, a certificate of Russian language competency is required. After successful completion of the degree, participants are provided with the possibility to obtain a dual Master’s degree.
