The study program “Master of Arts in Sinology” offered at Ruhr University Bochum provides a full-time combined master course with a duration of four semesters. This program is suitable for postgraduates of a related degree program who are motivated to find employment in the cultural and educational sector where expertise in Chinese linguistics, as well as philosophical and cultural practices, is required. The aim of the Master’s program is to further develop students’ insights into the subject matter. For instance, the program enables participants to independently study the evolvement of the Chinese language throughout the decennia and its interrelations with the culture from which it emerged. In addition, participation in study abroad programs at Chinese partner universities is advisable. A prerequisite to applying for this program is Chinese language skills, amounting to approximately 200 academic credit hours.
