The Salzburg University of Applied Sciences is one of three universities of applied sciences in Austria that will offer the Bachelor’s degree programme Early Childhood Education starting in autumn 2026. By expanding the qualification to higher education level, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences aims to further professionalise and enhance the attractiveness of the field.

The new Bachelor’s programme provides in particular secondary school graduates and career changers with the opportunity to complete an academically grounded education with a strong practical focus. Graduates are thus optimally prepared for the diverse labour market in early childhood education settings.

The Bachelor’s degree programme Early Childhood Education, offered at the Department of Applied Social Sciences, is based on a curriculum that has already been tested in a pilot project at the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna. In addition to the proven core content, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences places special emphasis on three key areas: attachment and relationship building, the integration of early childhood education and social work, and inquiry-based, sustainability-oriented early STEM education.
