Description
The Master's degree program in Retail and Technology provides you with the core skills you need to actively shape a modern retail landscape as a stationary, online or hybrid shopping environment. The ultimate aim is to train people with interdisciplinary skills to form the interface between engineers and business people.
As a graduate you will have:
- A deep understanding of the green and digital transformation of our economy and society.
- Academically sound knowledge of the central topics of applied retail sciences and thus a deep understanding of all aspects of retail management
- An understanding of the technologies and machines used in retail that goes beyond the pure user role - academically sound and practically applied.
- Understanding of the prevailing data structure in retail and all relevant analysis methods - from business intelligence to artificial intelligence
The Master's program promotes the gradual acquisition of skills. Building on the business and/or technical skills previously acquired in a Bachelor's degree, the modular program expands your knowledge and skills in the field of retail and technology management. The program enables students to understand, operate and further develop their skills in the field of retail.
Course of study
At the beginning of the course in the first semester, the principles and methods are taught as an academic basis for the course. At the same time, in the first and second semesters, existing business know-how is transferred to the retail domain.
In an academically sound and practically relevant way, you will learn what is important in modern retail companies and in the modern retail ecosystem and which forces are currently transforming it. All business management areas of a retail company are taken into account. Building on this in-depth domain knowledge, technological skills are taught in the second and third semesters. The Retail Data Literacy module focuses on data processing in the retail domain, while the Retail Technology Literacy module teaches students the skills they need to understand, operate and further develop a wide range of technological concepts and systems in the retail sector.
Retail Living Lab
Another central aspect of the Master's program is the Retail Living Lab, which takes place in the third and fourth semesters. In this lab, all acquired knowledge is combined in a large practical project, which is carried out in a specially created technological environment with customer contact (Living Lab) and allows students to build up innovative, application-oriented knowledge and know-how in future-oriented retail environments. The course concludes with the completion of their own Master's thesis.
