Description
Geomatics is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the collection, analysis and interpretation of data about the Earth’s surface. Geomatics gathers geographic information using a variety of technological, environmental and scientific methods and incorporates different tools from Mathematics, Computer Science and Earth Science. Geomatics is very important nowadays, as it serves as a tool in land surveying – helping to sub-divide land, detect if a property is prone to flooding and utilize the best techniques and locations for constructing buildings and structures. Some of the most common subjects taught in Geomatics university programs include Geomatics Data Analysis, Advanced Mapping, Geographical Information System, Sensing Technologies, Location Awareness, 3D Modeling, Geo-Legal Aspects, Geo Web Technology, Engineering Geodesy, Remote Data Acquisition and more. Students in Geomatics learn to apply the acquired knowledge in climate research, navigation and autonomous driving, the construction and monitoring of constructions and simultaneously develop geodata processing, remote sensing, critical thinking, strategic planning and problem solving skills. Potential career opportunities for Geomatics graduates include positions in mapping, land surveying, land management, geographic information management, urban planning, sustainable economic development and other sectors.
