The “Master of Education in German” program at the University of Cologne is with a study profile for teaching special needs pupils. Technical and didactic skills are provided over the course of 4 full-time semesters through a range of lectures and intensive practical training. In the second semester of the master's degree, a practical semester of at least 5 months in the chosen topics and a kind of school matching to the intended teaching job is accomplished. Admission requires a Bachelor's degree with "appropriate teaching certification" and "compatible" subjects, as well as proof of at least 144 relevant credit points from completed courses.
