The “Master of Arts in Japan Studies: Popular and Media Culture” program at the University of Cologne is with a length of 4 full-time semesters. It communicates advanced Japanese language skills, thorough understanding of the subject areas of visual culture, popular and subculture, media culture, and media history, as well as the capacity to critically analyze and interpret them, in separate modules. Admission requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Asian cultures and societies/majoring in Japanese studies, Japanese studies, Japanese culture past and present, Japanese studies or a comparable course with 60 relevant CP, Japanese at level B2 and English at level B1.
