Description
The "Master of Arts in Linguistics and Phonetics" program at the University of Cologne spans across 4 full-time semesters. The description of language in its numerous forms, particular grammatical occurrences, and with relation to complicated communication problems in multicultural contexts is the topic of general linguistics. Historical-Comparative Linguistics is a branch of research that examines many elements of linguistic evolution in Indo-European languages using philological text analyses. The theory and practice of prosodic analysis (including intonation models) and articulatory modeling of spoken language, as well as their effect on the acoustic speech signal, are the focus of the Phonetics major. A bachelor's degree in linguistics, phonetics, individual language philology with a linguistic concentration, other unrelated topics (musicology, psychology, information processing, communication science, physics) with 20 relevant LP, and English B2 are among the criteria for admission.
