The “Master of Arts in Music Education” program at the University of Cologne is with a length of 4 semesters. The course's aims are related to the bachelor's program's professional viewpoint, but they are supplemented or go beyond that and are more research-oriented, with the goal of allowing autonomous scientific study. The multidimensionality of the methods (music-historical, -pedagogical, -sociological, -ethnological, media-theoretical) is a distinguishing element of the course, which addresses the demands of modern music education. Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree with at least 50 CP in subjects of musicology/ theory, music pedagogy and/or music practice.
