Description
Physical Geography is a branch of Geography that studies the Earth’s natural features. Physical Geography unites methods from geomorphology, climatology, meteorology, pedology and geology to gain complete understanding of the planet’s natural processes and distribution of resources. Physical Geography is important because it gives us accurate information about the conditions of the Earth and human settlement, climate changes and all processes involving Earth. Physical Geography university programs teach a number of subjects, most commonly including Earth System, Natural Hazards and Risks, Geomorphology, Climate Dynamics, Water Resources, Ecology and Environmental Studies, Evolution and Development, Principles of Palaeobiology and others. Physical Geography degrees provide students with in-depth theoretical knowledge and the chance to apply it in fieldwork and practical projects which are essential for developing professional skills, like methodical skills in terms of quantitative and qualitative analysis, hazard and risk management skills, the ability to engage in scientific discussion and use remote sensing technologies, as well as investigation, critical-thinking, problem-solving and teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation skills. Physical Geography graduates can take on career paths in occupational fields such as spatial planning, surveying, environmental protection, architecture, engineering, urban planning, environmental management, scientific research and others.
